Foundations, Jr. is a preschool ministry program on Wednesday nights. It is a “light” version of the children’s Foundations program which builds children’s spiritual disciplines of Scripture Memory, reading, and prayer. Foundations, Jr also provides a fun, safe, and productive time for preschool children while parents are engaged in Life Groups or ministry.
4’s, 5’s, & K
The younger age cut-off is adjusted to balance the group with the younger childcare group, and can sometimes include 3’s if they are more active and able to participate. Participants should be potty-trained. Kindergarteners can choose whether to participate in Foundations, Jr. or Foundations.
Foundations, Jr. typically runs from early September to late May, and will include 32-34 lessons, depending on weeks off from Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Easter, etc.
Parent drop-off runs from 6:15 to 6:40 PM and pick-up runs from 7:30 to 7:45 PM.
Activities can vary greatly from week to week, at the discretion of the leaders. They generally include, at the least, a Bible Story and some play time in centers. They will also incorporate, as the leader chooses: a simple craft, a song, prayer time, a game, playground time, a memory verse, a puppet skit, an interactive activity, coloring sheets, a walk through the church, story review, etc.
Parents will drop-off and pick-up in the main classroom, C10. In between drop-off and pick-up, leaders may stay in the classroom or utilize the preschool playground. Other available spaces for special activities may include MP-3, MP-1, or the Worship Center.
Foundations, Jr is a fun time of childcare and learning. Leaders should plan for fun, care, and pointing the kids to Christ’s love for them. Leave lots of time for creative and free play, and plan for short attention spans by keeping the lessons brief and repeating the key point through other activities.
The group should maintain at least two Safe Kids approved leaders in the class at all times while children are present. Three leaders is helpful.
Foundations, Jr. uses My First Hands-On Bible as a guide for stories for each week. We additionally provide resources for games, crafts, music, teaching pictures, coloring sheets, and more that teachers can use to adapt the lesson. We rotate through the Old Testament one year and the New Testament the next year. Children's Ministry staff will provide a weekly lesson guide for each week, and you can click here to download a guide for Foundations, Jr with ideas and resources to adapt lessons as you choose.
